Day 2...the Sequel

48 hours into the trip....batteries have been exhausted, and so are we. We visited the home of George and Martha Washington, Mount Vernon. Students saw how our first president lived, and why his home was where his heart was. After exploring the shores of the Potomac, we went to the city to see where Abraham Lincoln was shot and died (quite a contrast to Mount Vernon), Ford's Theatre. Next, our scheduled called for some culture. We walked to the National Portrait Gallery, and the American Art Museum. Mr. Ferries had a very rich and detailed overview of contemporary art and "tried" to view it with an open mind. The change in our schedule brought us to Arlington National Cemetery where students showed their respect for the our nation's veterans as well as the resting place for the Kennedy brothers, and the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Next was dinner where Griffin ate 3 giant chocolate chip cookies!, then it was off to the Jefferson and Marine Corps Memorials. Exhausted we  got them in their rooms, and off to bed.
